The numbers are in and they don’t look good.
Canadian Christians are not reading the Bible as part of their daily lives like they used to. A 2014 Survey reveals that only 14% of Canadian Christians read their Bibles at least once a week, 45% say they never read their Bibles, and only 23% even think it’s relevant to their modern life. This a problem for a number of reasons, but primarily, it signals the impending death of the church in this country… unless something changes.
We believe that change is possible.
And that’s why we took on a Bible reading challenge in September 2014 to read the entire New Testament (260 chapters), a chapter a day. We called it the “Bible Reading Revolution” – because we believe that when we make Bible reading an important part of what we do as Christians, it’s going to be revolutionary! Our lives, our families, our church, and our communities can be changed by the power of God’s word, read and applied.
We had a great response with around 40% of our congregation participating in the Bible reading challenge. Praise God!
Starting Sept 21st, 2015 we’re launching a new 12-month reading challenge – this time focused on the Old Testament.
Will you join us in reading the Old Testament this year? Commit to daily reading of the Bible and see the affect it can have! Do you use social media? Share verses or thoughts from your daily reading with the hashtag #BibleReading and we can all encourage one another with God’s Word.
